2003
William Risman receives Leadership Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals to honor and recognize his great contributions to philanthropy.

William’s entrepreneurial spirit could only be matched by his true desire and commitment to give back to community with both his time and his largesse. In 1983, he was appointed by Ohio’s governor to board of trustees at Kent State University. He served nine years on board, two as chairman. William and Marion Risman made the largest gift of scholarships in the school’s history when they endowed 25 medallion scholarships to be awarded annually to high school seniors who might not be able to afford a college education. In gratitude, university named its main plaza the William B. and Marion C. Risman Plaza. William also gave his time, expertise and dollars to organizations such as former Mount Sinai Medical Center where he served on the board and Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland where he supervised construction of housing for senior citizens. William also gave generously to Cleveland’s medical community, making substantial lifetime gifts to both Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals.

Rob G. Risman continues to follow William Risman’s philanthropic nature joining him on Kent State University Foundation board and University Hospitals Case Medical Center board in 2007.
